SYCAMORE – The Voluntary Action Center’s annual golf outing will feature a virtual twist this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as organizers announced a drive-thru dinner option will take place.

According to a news release, the Thomas F. Zucker Memorial Golf Outing, Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois’ fall fundraising event added a Pickup Drive-Thru Dinner Sept. 25.

The Pickup Drive-Thru Dinner will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the VAC main facility, 1606 Bethany Road, Sycamore. The facility is used to prepare and package Meals on Wheels and the paratransit, and MedVAC headquarters.

“VAC is proud of what we do every day, and we are thrilled to be able to provide this Pickup Drive-Thru Dinner right at our own facility,” said Ellen Rogers, executive director. “Meanwhile, golfers have between now and Sept. 23 to golf at their own favorite golf course, and then submit their score card to try to win cash prizes.”

Participants do not have to be a golfer to attend the Pickup Drive-Thru Dinner or to participate in the 50/50 raffle. Dinner tickets are available to buy through Sept. 18. Dinner includes a choice of two pork chops or a chicken quarter, baked beans, coleslaw, roll and butter, and a VAC fresh baked cookie for $15.

Golfers pay $50 to participate in the competition, with dinner included, while participating: Foursome teams pay $180 for golf and dinner. 50/50 raffle tickets are available to buy at the pickup drive-thru.

Golfers should submit your score card to ttallitsch@vacdk.org, or fax it to 815-758-0202. All participants will be asked to provide the course name, the slope rating of the course, and the final score the player receives. All scores and ratings will be calculated into fair winners of each category of individual golfers and foursome teams. All score cards must be emailed or faxed by Sept. 23 to be eligible for winnings. Each winner of individual categories will win a $100 prize, and foursome players will win a $200 prize. There also is a $100 prize for the golfer from farthest away from Sycamore.

Winners will be announced at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the dinner, and on Facebook live on the Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois page. Participants are invited to join VAC’s Golf Outing group on Facebook and share golfing photos, videos and messages.

“We are proud to host the Thomas F. Zucker Memorial Golf Outing and Pickup Drive-Thru Dinner in honor of our past executive director. His example and service continue to inspire all of us at VAC, and we thank the Zucker family for their continued participation in this event each year,” Rogers said.
