Three tips to keep in mind when purchasing an accent table

SPONSORED

Are you in the market for a new accent table for your home?

Before making that purchase, there are three things you should consider.

First, keep the table’s function in mind. For instance, will it be used to hold a remote control?

Consider buying one with a drawer. Do you want the accent table to double as storage? If so, look for one with a shelf or several shelves. Will the table be used to hold a lamp? Make sure it’s made out of sturdy material. Is it for decorative purposes? Look for an accent table that has intricate lines or adds a pop of color.

Secondly, pay attention to scale–how items look next to each other and how they fit in the room. A large lamp on a small accent table, for instance, can create a sense of imbalance. As far as height, interior design experts recommend the table sit either right at or only a few inches below the arm height of a couch or chair. This makes it easier to set down a book or glass. And you may need more than one accent table depending on the size of the room and amount of seating to create a more well-balanced atmosphere.

Third, keep your budget in mind. The piece can range in price depending on design and material. But because accent tables, side tables and other decorative accessories often change based on season or mood, it’s OK to spend a little less.
