Shirt Off Your Back event Sunday

DeKALB – The second annual Shirt Off Your Back event is set to occur 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Faranda’s Banquet Center, 302 Grove St.

The event raises awareness for homeless people in the community, as well as
homeless children in DeKalb School District 428. A collection of warm clothing, food, water and school supplies will be taken.

Participants can wear their donations over a base layer of clothing and strut their stuff on a makeshift catwalk.

All proceeds from raffle baskets and cash donations at the event will be donated to the DeKalb School District emergency fund to provide hygiene bags, school physicals, field trip funds, gym shoes and school supplies to those in need. All clothing, food, paper products and water will be donated to Hope Haven, Safe Passage and Open Closet.

Public speakers from District 428, Kishwaukee United Way and Hope Haven will speak about programs and needs in the community.

The band Stroker Red will play from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Food will be provided by local food vendors, including Pizza Pros, Vinny’s Pizza, Fatty’s Pub & Grille, Sweet Dream Desserts and Dunkin’ Donuts. A cash bar will be available.
