DeKalb County Community Gardens adds 3 new board members

DeKALB – Three new members on the DeKalb County Community Gardens’ Board of Directors will oversee the organization’s activities and focus on its mission, strategy and goals, according to a news release.

The three new members – Angela Johnson, Randi Napientek and Virginia Sherrod – accepted the roles on a three-year term, according to the release.

Johnson has volunteered with DCCG’s Grow Mobile at University Village in DeKalb, and it’s something she takes to heart.

“I have always loved volunteering to help DCCG in any way I can,” she said. “I know as a board member, I can bring something new to the table.”

Napientek, the associate director of student-athlete academic support services at Northern Illinois University, has experience in programming, community outreach and assessment, according to the release.

“I look forward to the opportunity to be a part of this amazing organization,” Napientek said.

Napientek lives in Sycamore and has been involved in local nonprofit organizations for several years, including the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary and as a member of the DeKalb County Youth Services Bureau Board, according to the release.

Sherrod is retired from DeKalb School District 428 and currently serves as the 4th Ward alderman for the city of Sycamore. She said she looks forward to being a DCCG board member.

“My wish is to be able to continue the wonderful work that has already been started,” she said.

Sherrod serves as a member for the North Avenue Missionary Baptist Church board and the League of Women Voters of DeKalb County, as well as is a DeKalb County election tally judge, according to the release.

“DCCG is grateful to these new board members, as well as those already serving,” according to the release.
