SYCAMORE – When looking at this year’s squad, Sycamore volleyball coach Jennifer Charles said she’s actually reminded of her 2016 team – not only her first as head coach of the program, but the last one to win a regional tournament.
After a regional title her first year, the Spartans have had losing records the past two years. But the combination of athleticism and experience has Charles excited for the season as the Spartans compete in the new Interstate Eight Conference.
“This group reminds me of the first year I had the program, back when I had Val Hunt, Maizy Larson, Jenna Weaver, Alyssa Feuerbach,” Charles said. “This group reminds me of that group. They just work hard, are very athletic. Not all of them play volleyball all year long, but they at least try to touch the ball throughout the year, even if they’re playing basketball like Kylie [Feuerbach] does, or Hunter [Morgan], or so on and so forth. So for the most part I’m very optimistic. This should be a good season this year. I’m very excited.”
