Community services block grant funding public hearing set for Jan. 25

Hearing set for Jan. 25 at DeKalb Community Outreach Building

DeKALB – DeKalb County residents will have an opportunity to share comments about the 2019 Community Services Block Grant during a public hearing Friday.

According to a news release from DeKalb County Community Services Department, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will hold the public hearing Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Blank Slate Room at the Community Outreach Building, 2500 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb.

The federal grant is for $259,753, according to the Commerce Department, and allocates money for low-income families to various services such as food, shelter, and medicine.

The hearing will be to collect public comment on the 2019 Community Services Block Grant's notice of funding opportunity for the county.

Donna Henry, CSBG assistant manager, said the DeKalb County Health Department has overseen the grant funding historically, but indicated they will no longer be doing it, so the public hearing will announce the new community action agency, which will oversee grant operations.

"The [block grant] is tailored to meet the needs of the community," Henry said.

Those wanting to submit comments or receive a copy of the CSBG application submission should contact the Office of Community Assistance at 217-785-2533. Written copies of all comments should be provided at the hearing.

For information, call Henry at 312-814-1206, or email donna.henry@illinois.gov.
