To the Editor:
Congratulations to newly elected state Rep. Jeff Keicher. Thank you for running for office and helping push for real solutions in Springfield. I served as an elected official for almost 25 years on the District 212 school board in the Rosemont area and appreciate that you stood up to be counted. I hope you stand up for Illinois infrastructure.
Our transportation infrastructure is one area that needs your attention immediately. It has been 10 years since we have invested in a comprehensive capital construction program. Our roads, bridges and transit systems are in rough shape today, and soon will be in much rougher shape. We are paying more in vehicle repairs, wasted fuel, lost time in traffic jams and accidents and blown tires – all because of our bumpy, crowded and cracked roadways and broken-down transit systems.
It is time to improve the quality of life in the Land of Lincoln. It is time to embrace economic growth. It is time to make government more accountable and transparent for what we spend on transportation. It is time to manage costs while investing where it is most needed. It is time again to invest in Illinois by investing in our infrastructure.
You have a tremendous opportunity to put Illinois on a better path in your first legislative session. I look forward to working with you on a new capital plan that will move our state forward and help you turn the electoral promises into action that will make our roads and bridges better and our economy stronger.
