Also competing in 2A, Sycamore junior Fitz looks to ride his consistent short game into a nice round at state. Fritz shot a 10-over par 82 in sectionals at Stonewall Orchard, good enough for eighth overall. Sycamore coach Rick Davis said Fitz can't let the pressure get to him in his first state championship experience.
"There's more pressure here at this tournament," Davis said. "[Fitz] keeps the ball in play. He doesn't lose a lot of golf balls, which I think will benefit him here. He also hits a lot of fairways."
Over in 1A, Indian Creek senior Faivre looks to keep improving, as he has through out the post season. During regionals, Faivre shot a 90 in windy conditions, only advancing after winning a playoff. Faivre then turned it around, shooting a five-over par 77 at Rockford's Eliott Golf Course during the sectional round. Timberwolves coach Dave Olsen said that Faivre has cleaned up around the green.
"Up until three weeks ago, his putting wasn't good." Olsen said. "He went out and bought a new putter and ever since then, he has been putting well...He just started playing smarter."
