Kaneland beat Morris last week, setting up the possibility of a three-way tie for the conference title. Coach Matt Weckler said a shared title isn't exactly a solo title, but it's still a championship.
"It's one of our goals we had, to win a conference championship," Weckler said. "By Kaneland beating Morris, that gives us the opportunity to get a share of it. Not really what we wanted to do, but we'll take what we can get right now. Our focus right now is just winning the next two games and getting ready for the playoffs."
The Barbs (6-1 overall, 2-1 conference) need a win at Yorkville (1-6, 0-3) to secure a share of the title with at least the Knights, and possibly Morris.
Defensive lineman Zach Donahue said the team learned its lesson after the 19-10 loss to Morris.
"(This) Monday, after the game, coach told us we had a second chance and not to blow it," Donahue said. "So we're going to try no to blow this game and go out and get the job done this week."
